Ingredient and Nutrition
Hot Date Kitchen dates are whole California Medjool dates, hand-stuffed with sunflower seed butter and warming spices (or organic espresso), then dipped in single-origin 75% dark chocolate and finished with sea salt. Every pouch is made from four real ingredients, with about 2 grams of added sugar, and is vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free. This page is the full reference for what is inside, where it comes from, and how to read the label.
The four ingredients
-
California Medjool dates from Coachella's Best in the Coachella Valley. Non-GMO. The whole fruit, never date paste, so you keep the fiber.
-
75% dark chocolate from Republic del Cacao, a B-Corp working directly with Ecuadorian cacao farmers. Single-origin.
-
Sunflower seed butter from SunButter, made in North Dakota from U.S.-grown sunflowers. A nut-free source of healthy fat and vitamin E.
-
Single-origin spices from Burlap & Barrel, a Public Benefit Corporation that pays smallholder farmers fairly. Coffee Dates use Fair-Trade organic espresso from Dean's Beans instead of spices.
No palm oil. No sugar substitutes. No artificial flavors or colors. No fillers. No preservatives.

The 18 bioactive nutrients
Across the four ingredients, a Hot Date delivers 18 bioactive compounds and micronutrients: 9 minerals (potassium, magnesium, iron, copper, manganese, zinc, phosphorus, selenium, calcium), 6 vitamins (E, B6, A from beta-carotene, C, folate, K), and 2 plant bioactives (flavonoids from dark chocolate, capsaicin from the spices), plus fiber.
Allergens
Our recipe contains no peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, or dairy ingredients. Please read carefully if you have allergies:
-
Soy: our dark chocolate contains soy, so our products are not safe for people with a soy allergy.
-
Peanuts and tree nuts: our recipe has none, but our kitchen handles both and our chocolate line contacts products that contain them. We clean thoroughly between batches. People with nut allergies should use their own judgment.
-
Gluten: all ingredients are gluten-free and our equipment is dedicated to gluten-free ingredients, but our kitchen does handle gluten-containing products.
-
Dairy: no dairy ingredients, but our dark chocolate comes from a facility that also processes milk chocolate and may contain trace amounts.

Frequently asked questions
How much sugar is in a Hot Date?
About 2g of added sugar per serving, all from the dark chocolate. The rest of the sweetness is natural sugar from the Medjool date, which comes with fiber that slows absorption.
Are Hot Dates vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free?
Yes to all three. They are also dairy-free, non-GMO, and kosher. They do contain soy from the chocolate, and they are made in a kitchen that handles nuts.
What are the ingredients?
Whole California Medjool dates, sunflower seed butter, 75% dark chocolate, and either single-origin spices or organic espresso, finished with sea salt. That is the entire list.
How should I store them?
Keep them in a cool, dry place. They travel well at room temperature and do not need refrigeration, though chilling keeps the chocolate firm in warm weather.
